Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto (UMP) through the International Affairs Office (IAO) held the International Summer Course 2018 from 16 to 28 July 2018. The event is jointly done with STIKES Muhammadiyah Gombong, Kebumen.
The theme of this summer course, traditional herbal medicine and cosmetics, is in line with the program of excellence of the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, and Faculty of Agriculture of UMP.
There are 10 students participating in the Summer Course 2018 from Turkey, Italy, South Korea, Thailand, Sudan, Afghanistan, Germany and France.
Dr. Ns Jebul Suroso, S.Kp. M.Kep., the Vice Rector for Development and Partnership of UMP, said that this summer course is done in collaboration with STIKES Muhammadiyah Gombong. He expected that the International Summer Course will improve the internationalization of UMP.
“It is the implementation of partnership and internationalization of the university in order to promote our university worldwide as well as to introduce the culture of Indonesia and to share knowledge with the international participants. It is also a good opportunity to show them the excellence of UMP, particularly the herbal medicine and cosmetics” he said.
Novi Haryanti M.Pd, the coordinator of the program, said that this Summer Course is annually held by UMP through IAO. “This year, we collaboratively hold this summer course with STIKES Muhammadiyah Gombong”, she said.
During the program, the participants attend lectures and visit home industry of herbal medicine, locally called “Jamu”.
“This two-week program will take place not only in Purwokerto but also in Purbalingga, Gombong, and Yogyakarta,” she said.
The main objective of this program is to promote the natural wealth as well as local wisdom of Banyumas, particularly the herbs that can be produced as low-risk herbal cosmetics.
“Students of UMP and STIKES Gombong also take part in this program in order to give them experience in sharing ideas with the international participants from 8 countries,” she said. (ar/tgr)
